Getting going.......

We did our first official training walk this weekend and it was awesome! When I walked in 08, doing 5 miles exhausted me. This year, I did 5 miles easily, we kept a great pace, and then I came home and cleaned the house, quite a different feeling this year. I'm super excited about walking this year because I think I'll be able to enjoy it more because I'm definitely in better shape and I know what to expect.

Fund raising is going awesome as well. My Mom starts her "Jeans Day" fund raiser this week and her co-workers are also graciously having a bake sale and donating those sales to me as well. I've also reconnected with a friend from high school who is using her home business as a method of getting donations as well. I'm feeling very blessed with incredibly generous people in my life right now! Sarah and I are doing a bowling fund raiser. This is a 1st for both of us and we are both super excited so stay tuned for more details. We're REALLY hoping that our bowling fund raiser will be our last fund raiser this season.

I've also signed up to be a Training Walk Leader. I don't know how many walks I'll lead but I can back up Sarah and our teammate Cheryl. Plus I get a fun little orange badge to wear on the 3 Day as a Safety Monitor :)

Please consider making a personal donation to The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3 Day:

Fund raising.......

Obviously fund raising is a huge part of the 3 Day. For me personally, it's something that is on my mind from the moment I register to walk. When I walked in 2008, a small group of us worked the concession stands at Comerica Park and I met my fund raising minimum with quite a bit of time left. We're not working games this year so I had to come up with a few new ideas. I held a Tupperware/Golden Girls party in Oct. and made around $650 from both donations and a percentage of the product sales. I've also sent out 2 emails asking for personal donations. I was OVERJOYED when I came home the other day and 3 people had donated that day!!! Then the next day I was given another large donation. Then my wonderful Mom called me and told me that she had requested and been approved to have "jeans day" at work where people can wear jeans for $5 and I receive all of that money. Imagine my surprise when she went on to tell me that it was for all FOUR Friday's in April!!!! And they are having a bake sale and donating those profits to me. I am so excited and so thankful to such awesome people supporting me in this walk.

The fund raising is really WHY we do this. I mean we are certainly making a statement by walking 60 miles but each and every single walker must raise $2300 to participate. To date, there hasn't been a single revolutionary discovery made in Breast Cancer research that The Susan G. Komen foundation didn't have their hand in. I say that very proudly, I am proud that I contribute to that. I am proud to a member of The 3 Day community!

Spring is in the air........

When the weather starts to warm up, us walkers think about 2 things: fund raising and training :) I've made a good dent in my fund raising, I have about $650 from a Tupperware/Gold Party that I did back in Oct. and I have about $300 in personal donations. I've started sending out emails for donations and this weekend, I'll work on writing letters to send to family, neighbors, etc. I may have to do one more fund raiser in the early summer. Sarah and I have talked about doing a bowling fund raiser and I'm looking into that.

As for training.... I really need to start training. I have my shoes/socks all figured out so I won't have to worry about that. I am using a CamelBak this year instead of a waist pack so I have to train with that and see how to work the water/gatorade situation since the Bak only has one bladder. I'm not sure if I'll have to carry a separate bottle for gatorade, hopefully I can chat with someone who's used them before.

I love that the 3 Day community is already getting excited and it's only March :) 22 weeks to go!!!!

Welcome!!!

Welcome to the 2010 3 Day season :) I can't believe it's already March which means it's time to kick my fund raising up a notch as well as my training. We officially have a little more than 20 weeks until our big weekend and I'm already feeling the excitement! I've started my letter writing campaign to gather donations and I'm brainstorming with my team for a few simple fund raising ideas, I don't think I can beg enough people to do another Tiger's game :) I'm also on a mission to lose about 30 lbs before August. I want to be as healthy as possible so I can complete the event safely and with awesome memories. Thanks for coming along on this journey with me, I promise it'll be a fun ride!
